With an established healthy massage regimen, your chronic pain and tension may be properly addressed to enable you to live a life with the ability to function better, and to move with less, or no more pain, and without those remaining pains causing any additional Compensation Patterns that may potentially inhibit movement in another part of your body. 
Along with proper stretching, therapeutic massage is "key" to Preventative Maintenance, and preventing any potential or additional injuries. 
The stresses from bad body mechanics, or injuries from strains, sprains, or tears one may experience... all benefit from massage.  Along with the "painless" Myofascial Release Technique, Deep Tissue Massage strokes are great for intrinsically releasing muscle tension, which in turn, decrease compression on the bones and joints, and essentially ease pain which is also caused by the nerves.

Swedish 
Massage encouraging a parasympathetic response with mental & physical relaxation calming & relaxing the nervous system, which in turn, is able to reduce Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Anxiety & Stress.  It includes using techniques like effleurage (long strokes) towards the heart, petrissage (kneading), tapotement (a beating motion/hacking/cupping), friction, and lymphatic drainage at the superficial layers of muscles to improve circulation, range of motion, and tissue elasticity, as well as to decrease muscle tensions.  This technique is great for calming the stress response and its subsequent role in creating diseases.  Especially beneficial for those dealing with or suffering from emotional issues, as well as those being affected by their subsequent ability to increase stress, and one's blood pressure.

Medical Massage is the art & science of combining scientifically proven principles of a doctor's diagnosis and the intuitive sense of a therapist's skillful & healing touch.
Massage with great care considering one's health background with a perspective of the Whole Body & any diagnosis from a client's doctors while assessing soft tissue imbalances found, and forming a protocol combining a therapist's knowledge of medical conditions and using several massage modalities & techniques with specific goals in resolving those diagnosed conditions.  ...is not limited to any particular specific technique(s), and incorporates any that may help per condition if not contraindicated.  May or may not be prescribed.
